Please give me 2 dollars...
the portal is now open
Many years ago I had a job educating nurses. I created power point presentations to illustrate somewhat boring, but necessary medical facts. I had the brilliant idea to entertain the masses and make needed education more palatable by attaching photos of stunning pairs of yellow shoes next to each factoid. Everyone loved the yellow footwear and remembered ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about the important medical knowledge. I was a prime example of an artist who had the wrong day job… but now I get to create my own vision, fundraising angles and promotion… see below.
So… today’s topic is The Portal Project! A need has arisen!
On July 29th Tieton is hosting an Artist Fair and Vintage Trailer Rally. Trust me, you want to be there. And at my booth you will find THE TWO DOLLAR PORTAL PROJECT FUNDRAISER earmarked to buy markers, colored pencils and crayons. Oh yes, my art will be there too.
At least now I’m in charge of a project appropriate to my skill set.
I am really lucky to be able to work with this loose, ever evolving, donated, odd pile of recycled art materials that make up the Portal Project. For those of you who are new here the project gathers any material a child or an adult could use to make art and disperses these amazing goods with no charge.
We have a lot of new teachers in our district this year. They are given a minimum of supplies and have to procure the rest. We hope our expanding array of gathered supplies will help fill this need.
But why only ask for two dollars?
It’s about the spirit of the project.
The portal exchange is based upon giving, gathering, and giving away.
And if you don’t have two dollars you can still give me something. I’d love the name of your favorite person in education, or those old pieces of metal in your garage, or the yarn you meant to knit a hat with someday. And yes, we still collect toilet paper rolls.
And I have something to give you in return! Let’s just say it might sparkle or inspire you. Come on the 29th to find out!
Let’s share resources and recycle more. Let’s inspire each other to create!
It’s a path into a conversation with friends old and new about our project…
P.S. Thank you so much for reading my newsletter and listening to my ideas. You give me energy and hope!
*And if you want to give more money you can donate to Tieton Arts and Humanities who sponsor The Portal Project, give us storage space, let me teach art to kids, and put up with my wacky ideas.

**AND on Saturday, Aug. 5th, 11-4 The Portal Project will have a big give away at the Mighty Tieton Warehouse during the opening for the 10x10x10 art exhibit! Alert the teachers!!!

Love this project Sonny! You are amazing! We're gathering our supplies to mail on Monday!
Love,
Sonny
Wish I could be there on the 29th but can’t be in two places at one time 🤪
